Profile of KVK
Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) is an institutional project of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to test, demonstrate and disseminate the application of science and technology input of Agricultural research on the farmers field with the help of multidisciplinary team of Scientists. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kalikiri was established on February 10th, 2012 to cater the needs of farming community of thirty three (33) western mandals of Chittoor district. Since inception this KVK has been endeavoring for the upliftment of socio-economic condition of the farming community of the district through scientific intervention in the agricultural and allied sectors.
Mandate and functions of KVK:
- On-farm testing to assess the location specificity of agricultural and allied technologies under various farming systems.
- Organize Frontline Demonstrations to establish production potential of technologies on the farmers’ fields.
- Capacity development of farmers and extension personnel to update their knowledge and skills on modern agricultural and allied technologies.
- To work as knowledge and resource centre of agricultural and allied technologies for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector in improving the agricultural and allied economy of the district.
- Provide farm advisories using ICT and other media means on varied subjects of interest to farmers.
Facilities at Krishi Vigyan Kendra:
Krishi Vigyan Kendra has equipped with an Administration Building, Training Hall for conducting Training Programmes, Farmers hostel, Custom hiring centre, threshing floor, soil testing lab, information center and value addition unit.

Demonstration units at KVK:
KVK is having 50 acres of instructional farm with various demonstration units to showcase latest farming technologies for visitors. KVK is maintaining Seed production units of field and horticultural crops, Vegetable and flower nursery, Mango grafts, Kitchen garden, Vegetables and flower demonstration units, Vermicompost production unit, Azolla unit, back yard poultry, sheep unit, fodder demonstration block, organic/natural farming blocks and Technology information unit.






Achievements of KVK in terms of services rendered to farmers since inception
Impactful Interventions of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kalikiri, Andhra Pradesh
1. Production of quality seeds and facilitation to the farmers: Since inception of KVK (2012), 320 Q of quality seed material of cereals, millets, pulses and oil seeds was produced and facilitated to the farmers of chittoor and Annamayya Districts.
2. Entrepreneurship development: Entrepreneurship programmes in Mushroom production and value addition were conducted and developed 12 entrepreneurs.
3. Promotion of promoting varieties of Field and Horticultural crops: TCGS 1694 (Vishista) of Groundnut variety, RNR-15048 variety of Paddy, TFB-1 and TFB-2 varieties of Field bean, TRG-59 and LRG-105 varieties of Redgram, ICH-5 variety of Castor, TPTC-29 of Cowpea variety, Vakula and Indravathi varieties of Ragi, SiA-3156 and Renadu varieties of Korra were promoted in the significant acerage in Chittoor and Annamayya Districts.
The promising vegetable varieties viz., Arka Meghana, Arka Gagan, LCA-657 and LCA-684 of Chilli, Arka Rakshak and Arka Samrat hybrids of Tomato, Arka Prasanna variety of Ridge gourd, PKM-1 variety of Moringa, Arka Bhanu, Arka Bangara-2, Arka Agni, Arka alankar hybrids of Marigold, Paper white variety of Chrysanthemum, Arka Prajwal variety of Tuberose were promoted. Mango grafts of suitable varieties to the District i.e., Baneshan, Bangalora, Mallika, Neelam, Khadhar and Himam Pasand were produced in KVK nursery and facilitated to the farmers.
4. Role of Soil Testing Lab: Soil testing lab was established in 2022 and serving for the farming community through recommendation of soil test based fertilization-manure applications to different crops and recommendation of crop suitability. Upto now, around 3718 soil samples were analysed.
5. Production of quality planting material of horticultural crops: Total of 7,52,629 seedlings of different fruits and vegetables viz., Papaya, Dragon fruit, Acid lime, Tomato, Chilli, Marigold, Crossandra, Moringa and Mango were produced in the nursery and supplied to the farmers.
6. Diagnostic field visits made: KVK, Kalikiri has conducted 3520 diagnostic visits in field crops , horticulture crops, livestock and necessary recommendations were made.
7. Efforts for Integrated Pest Management: Significant demonstrations were conducted regarding IPM in Groundnut, Redgram, Mango, Tomato, Chillies through majorly natural and ecofriendly practices and recorded the positive perception and practice by 4200 progressive farmers of Chittoor and Annamayya District.
8. Promotion of Integrated Farming System (IFS): Nellore jodipi breed of sheep, Rajasri and Gramapriya breeds of poultry were maintained in the IFS unit of KVK and promoted among the farmers along with other components of IFS like production of quality Vermicompost, maintainance of fodder block for the livestock, Azolla unit? etc.
9. Enlightening about the organic manures and bipopesticides: Upto now, 15 tonnes of Vermicompost was supplied to the farmers for horticultural crops at reasonable cost @ Rs. 10,000 per tonne and promoted the use of bipopesticides like Trichoderma, Pseudomonas through enriching by utilizing Vermicompost/FYM as substratum.
